Welcome to the Summer 2008 Projects Page!

This summer we will work on at least two projects begun by the SJHSRC during academic year 2007 - 08: the LIGO seismic sensitivity project, and the QuarkNet Cosmic Ray Solar Sensitivity project. Here are the instructions for these projects as posted during the 2007 - 08 academic year:

Instructions for the QuarkNet Cosmic Ray Detector Solar Sensitivity Project

This is a live feed from a cosmic ray detector--not one of the QuarkNet detectors, but one based upon a multi-stage image intensifier (similar to the way night vision goggles work.) Muons appear (fairly infrequently, given the 1 cm^2 detector area) as linear streaks set across the chaotic background of thermal noise.
